      I made some really pretty disks which were half rough and half smooth, so that I could prove that bacteria grow more on the roughened surfaces. I got some really cool pictures of the middle of the sample where you could see half the image had a lot of growth and the other half had hardly any so it looked really cool.

      The first “intelligent” artificial knee, back in the 1990s. It made such an immediate difference to the quality of life of those who used it.

      I’m really proud of these lenses I made that I can hand out to people to use with their smartphone as a microscope. It doesn’t really have to do with my research, but it’s amazing to show people how it works and see their face when I say they can keep the lens 🙂

      my fav thing would be my surfaces that I have made out of gold and used a technique called photolithography to pattern them (it’s like developing camera film on glass). I changed all the surface chemistry and made my brain cells happy to live on them. thats pretty cool.
